Menopause Cafe

Pelvic health is going to be our main topic on July’s Menopause Café with Pelvic Health Physiotherapist Ellen Rose as our guest speaker.

Pelvic floor conditions often come up in our monthly meetings. For some people it is a taboo to talk about these ‘lady things’, but now it’s really the time to be less embarrassed or joke about these and gather plenty of information on how you can improve your quality of life from peri to post menopause.

Ellen will explain how menopause affects the pelvic floor, bladder, and bowel health. Many women notice bladder symptoms like urinary leakage, urgency and frequency. There’s often bowel changes, pelvic pain and vaginal atrophy, as well as feelings of pelvic heaviness or prolapse during this time. These issues arise or often become more apparent during menopause.

Pelvic floor muscles are also impacted, just like any other muscles, weakening or losing bulk over time, especially with reduced oestrogen and testosterone. We will discuss these symptoms and how a pelvic floor physiotherapist can improve your comfort and confidence.

You can ask questions, share your own experiences, and feel supported so you can get through this challenging time feeling well. Expect information on food, supplements, lifestyle routines, exercises, HRT and more that may improve your well-being.

You can take away a small booklet published by the UK Charity Menopause Support Group UK founded by the #MakingMenopauseMatter movement. The booklet contains FAQ, a ‘symptom checker’ you can take to your GP and help with consultations, information on HRT, and a list of other sources of information.

Places are limited so we would recommend registering in advance.
